What happens during your Appointment
Consultation & Cleanse - Your skin is assessed and thoroughly cleansed to prepare for treatment.
Spicule Massage - Microscopic freshwater sponge spicules are massaged into the skin. You’ll feel a tingling or “gritty” sensation as they gently penetrate the skin’s surface. Previous clients have found this to be a more ‘Spicy’ application but it is not painful.
Absorption Time - The spicules stay in the skin for up to 72 hours, stimulating collagen and cell turnover from within.
Soothing Mask or Serum - A calming mask or hydrating serum is applied to reduce redness and support recovery.
SPF & Aftercare - We finish with SPF and send you home with clear aftercare instructions. Expect mild redness and peeling around Days 2–3, followed by noticeably fresher, brighter skin.
After Your Treatment
Right after your treatment, your skin will feel sensitive and appear red — sometimes quite noticeably. While this may look intense, there’s nothing stopping you from returning to your day as normal. You may also experience a gritty or sandy feeling on the skin for up to 48 hours, which is completely normal as the spicules continue to work beneath the surface.
This treatment works by physically stimulating skin cell turnover from within, so mild to moderate flaking or shedding is completely normal — especially around Days 2 to 5. It’s all part of the natural renewal process and a sign your skin is regenerating. Avoid picking or exfoliating, and let the skin shed naturally for the best results.
You will receive Aftercare - it is important you use a highly nourishing moisturiser AM & PM after your treatment. You MUST use SPF everyday to protect your skin.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Does it hurt?
It is not painful, you will feel hot/tingling sensation. It is a big ‘Spicier’ than other peels, it can feel like tiny needles.
Can I have the peel if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
While the spicules themselves are natural and non-toxic, some accompanying serums or masks may contain ingredients not recommended during pregnancy (e.g. retinoids, certain peptides or acids). For that reason, we do not recommend this treatment during pregnancy or breastfeeding
Is it suitable for rosacea or sensitive skin?
Generally, this peel is not recommended for active rosacea or very thin, reactive skin. The physical stimulation may trigger a flare-up or cause discomfort. A consultation is always needed to assess individual suitability.
Is this treatment safe if I’m on active acne medication?
If you’re using oral isotretinoin (e.g. Roaccutane), the treatment is contraindicated and should be avoided until at least 6 months post-medication. If using topical retinoids, you’ll need to stop use 5–7 days before treatment and avoid for at least a week after.
